Download djsnake

A prebuilt Docker image and one Compose file. All you need is a Discord bot token.

  1. Create the bot

    In the Discord Developer Portal, create an application and add a bot. Enable the Message Content Intent, then invite it with the bot and applications.commands scopes and these permissions: View Channels, Send Messages, Read Message History, Add Reactions, Connect, Speak.

  2. Start it

    Set your bot token in .env, then pull the image.

    $ git clone https://github.com/selfhostr/djsnake.git
$ cd djsnake
$ cp .env.example .env  # set DISCORD_TOKEN
$ docker compose pull && docker compose up -d
$ docker compose logs -f dj-snake

  3. Play something

    Join a voice channel and send this in a text channel.

    !play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Requirements

  • Docker with Compose
  • A Discord bot token
  • A reverse proxy or a tunnel to open the clip page from other machines: it only listens on this machine by default
  • Without Docker: Python 3.10+, ffmpeg, deno and a PO token provider
